Thenmala is the first planned eco-tourism destination in India. It is a small village located near Punalur town in Kollam at a distance 72 kms from Trivandrum.


Thenmala Eco-Tourism shares its resources with the famous Shenduruney Wildlife Sanctuary at the foothills of the Western Ghats. It attracts foreign and domestic tourists with a host of attractions. Visitors can enjoy the trip with boating on the lake, a rope bridge, trekking, mountaineering, biking and a musical fountain. The waterfall called Palaruvi is a prime attraction near to Thenmala.

Palaruvi is situated in and around the Thenmala Eco Tourism Project. The main attraction in Palaruvi is a 300-foot high waterfall. Besides bathing in the delightful waterfall, trekking is the main activity at Palaruvi which attracts a lot of tourists.
